Alamo Heights ISD welcomes all military families to our school district! We aim to provide support and resources to ease the transition of our military families and welcome them to the AHISD community.

Alamo Heights ISD is the heart of the community whose passion is excellence. From Pre K to 12th grade, our five schools provide all students with opportunities to excel academically and as confident, compassionate citizens with impeccable character and a global perspective.

Alamo Heights ISD covers 9.4 square miles and serves students from the communities of Alamo Heights, Terrell Hills, Olmos Park, and a portion of north San Antonio. Geographically, AHISD is the second smallest school district in the state of Texas which leads to an amazing sense of community in all 5 schools. AHISD is conveniently located near Fort Sam Houston and Randolph AFB.

New to Alamo Heights ISD

To determine which school a student will attend, based on home address, refer to the District Map. For those that do not live in AHISD, the district does allow a limited number of tuition students each year.

Contact the campus office to schedule a tour of any AHISD campus. Each school website offers more information on campus specific programs, clubs, and organizations.

Registration Checklist

Registration of new students can be completed online on the New Student Registration website.

The following documents are required by the district to register.

- Student Birth Certificate
- Student Immunization records
- Student most recent report card
- Student achievement test scores
- Student withdrawal documents from previous school
- Student 504 plan, ARD, and IEP documents (if applicable)
- If parents are divorced/separated, legal document stating guardianship
- Proof of Residency
     - If you own your home (BCAD verified):
        - A copy of a current utility bill
     - If you are renting in the district:
       - A copy of your lease listing the student as an occupant
       - A copy of a current utility bill

PreKindergarten

Registration for PreKindergarten in Alamo Heights ISD is a two-step process - submitting documents online for verification of qualifying status and printing/completing a PreK packet that will be emailed to the school attendance secretary.

Once the information has been received and verified, families will receive an email letting them know registration is complete.

To qualify for free PreKindergarten in Texas, a child must be 4 years old on or before Sept. 1 of the current school year and meet one of the following eligibility qualifications:

- Unable to speak/comprehend the English language
- Educationally disadvantaged
- Is homeless
- Is the child of an active duty member of the armed forces of the United States, including the state military forces or a reserve component of the armed forces, who is ordered to active duty by the proper authority.
- Is the child of a member of the armed forces of the United States, including the state military forces or a reserve component of the armed forces, who was injured or killed while serving on active duty
- Is or has been in the conservatorship of the Texas Department of Family and Protective Services (foster care) or has been in foster care in another state or territory, but currently lives in Texas
- Is the child of a person eligible for the Star of Texas Award as a peace officer, firefighter, or emergency medical first responder

Documentation is required to verify eligibility including birth certificate, proof of residence, up to date immunizations, and photo ID of parent/guardian registering the child, and other supporting documents.

Interstate Compact on Educational Opportunity for Military Children

The Interstate Compact on Educational Opportunity for Military Children allows for uniform treatment as military children transfer between school districts in member states. The Compact seeks to make transition easier for the children of military families, so they are afforded the same opportunities for educational success as other children, and are not penalized or delayed in achieving their educational goals.

Joint Base San Antonio School Liaison

The Joint Base San Antonio School Liaison Office (SLO) helps parents ease the transition of the mobile military lifestyle and can assist prior to PCS, upon arrival, while at your installation and when you prepare to depart for the next duty station. They specialize in serving military families with K-12 school age children and are able to provide information about the local school systems and community. The SLO will support parents and school districts with the Interstate Compact for the Education of Military Students interpretation, information on schools and boundaries, Home School, Deployment Support, provide School and Community Outreach partnerships. These military dependent education professionals serve as a link between military families and all surrounding school districts ensuring maximum education opportunities for academic success.
