Dr. Kevin Brown came to Alamo Heights ISD in July 2000 and has served as Superintendent of Schools since July 2008.

Dr. Brown began his career teaching social studies at Southwest High School in San Antonio in 1991 and continued at McNeil High School in Round Rock. He also served in New Braunfels ISD as an assistant principal and principal at both the elementary and secondary levels. In addition, he has taught graduate courses at Texas State University and guest lectured at Trinity University.

While earning his undergraduate degree in Government with Honors from the University of Texas at Austin in 1989, he was a member of the University of Texas Longhorn Band, serving as president for one year and trumpet section leader for four years. Earning his Master’s Degree in Education Administration from Texas State University in 1996 and his Doctorate in Education Administration from Texas A&M University in 2004, he focused his research on the talents and qualities of effective teachers and how they can be identified for selection.

Raised in San Marcos, Texas, from the age of 7, he graduated from San Marcos High School in 1985 where he was a 3-year All-State musician while lettering in Basketball, Tennis, Band, and Choir. His family also has deep roots in the education and business communities in San Antonio dating to the 1920s. Page, his wife since 1993, was born and raised in San Antonio.

During his tenure as superintendent, AHISD has gone through a major, collaborative strategic planning process in 2008-2009, including the implementation of 49 initiatives to ensure the district’s tradition of excellence continues. Again, in 2015, the district collaboratively developed the AHISD Profile of a Learner, which describes the characteristics and attributes we desire for our 21st century students. These collaborative efforts have helped transform the district into a learner centered environment focused on designing engaging experiences for students that result in profound learning.

Family and friends are very important to Dr. Brown. He is proud of his wife, Page (attorney and filmmaker), and their two daughters - Hannah (Texas Tech Biology major) and Molly (Alamo Heights High School senior) and a collection of many great friend since childhood. He also enjoys exercising, fly-fishing, kayaking and hiking, and most especially, attending Alamo Heights competitions and performances.

Dr. Brown has a passion for public education and believes that quality teachers and a supportive community are critical components to the success of children and to the continued success of our democratic way of life.
