Program Components

PROGRAM DEFINITION:

The Alamo Heights ISD Comprehensive and Developmental Guidance and Counseling Program is organized to deliver professional guidance and counseling services to PK-12 students in collaboration with their parents, teachers, administrators, district staff, and community members and service providers.

Professional guidance and counseling staff members adhere to professional, legal, and ethical standards and utilize guidance, counseling, crisis management, consultation, coordination, and assessment interpretation competencies to provide services to all students.

Through participation in the program, students develop knowledge and skills regarding their own self-confidence development, motivation to achieve, decision-making, goal-setting, planning, and problem-solving, interpersonal effectiveness, communication skills, cross-cultural effectiveness, and responsible behavior. These skills are emphasized through a variety of lessons and activities that target the 8 Keys of Excellence, the 40 Developmental Assets, and the recommended Guidance Strands from the Texas Education Agency. Based on the individualized needs of each campus, the delivery of these concepts and skills may vary from school to school.

However, regardless of the campus all professional guidance and counseling services are delivered through the four program components of a guidance curriculum, an individual planning system, responsive services, and system support.
