Alamo Heights ISD is committed to keeping the community informed about the work of the Board of Trustees. This board summary highlights the action and recognitions from the latest Regular Meeting of the Board of Trustees.

Recognitions 

Spotlight on Excellence
Kevin Harshman, Instructional Support for the ACE program at Woodridge, was honored with the March Spotlight on Excellence recipient.

Powering the Profile
Carissa Galvis
, fourth grade teacher at Woodridge, was recognized for Powering the Profile for embodying the AHISD Profile of a Learner. Visit the AHISD YouTube channel for a video showing how she empowers students to ‘think critically and creatively.’

All-State Choir
For the second year in a row Elia Contreras earned a spot in the All-State Choir. Only the top 2.6% of musicians who initially audition become All-State musicians. Elia performed with the All-State ensembles last month at the TMEA Clinic/Convention here in San Antonio. Her instructors are David Short and Linda Wilson.

UIL Swimming and Diving State Qualifiers
The Board recognized the swimmers and divers who qualified for last month’s UIL State Swimming and Diving Meet. Diver James Holloway finished in 7th place. Swimmer Philip Mu earned 5th and 7th place in the 100 yard backstroke and 200 yard medley. Other state qualifiers were Cameron Percival, Wesley Cox, Mason Saunders and alternates Caleb Schnitzius and Liam Cox.

Student Council
Grace McCormick
, President of the Alamo Heights High School Student Council, shared the March update with Trustees.

Other Board Action and Presentations 

Trustees heard about a request that was previously approved by the Superintendent for a high school student trip with the World Languages Department to Spain, Italy, and France in June 2025.

Dr. Jimmie Walker, Assistant Superintendent of Curriculum and Instruction, presented an overview of results from the Feedback February survey. More than 4,700 parents, students, and teachers participated in the annual survey.

Dr. Kristen Ascencao, District Testing and Counseling Coordinator, and Catherine Widder, District Wellness Coordinator, presented the annual report on the AHISD Counseling Program and Student Wellness.

Dr. Walker presented a College Admissions Action Research: Class Rank Update and provided an overview of the three phase project.

Trustees approved the cancellation of the May Trustee election. The candidates were certified as unopposed.

Donations were accepted from GTS Technology Solutions, AHJS PTO, Mary Crumley, multiple donors for Athletic Trainers and Track and Field, and the Alamo Heights School Foundation. The accepted donations totaled $14,441.

Trustees accepted reports from the Building, Policy, Budget, Communications, Goals and Priorities, and Assessment and Long Range Planning committees; and Alamo Heights School Foundation.

Trustees approved a resolution to nominate Dr. Dana Bashara for Texas Association of School Boards (TASB) Superintendent of the Year.

Trustees approved the hiring of Project Control Project Management Team for Bond 2023 design and construction and the issuance of “Alamo Heights Independent School District unlimited tax school building bonds, Series 2024.”
