Alamo Heights ISD is committed to keeping the community informed about the work of the Board of Trustees. This board summary highlights the action and recognitions from the latest Regular Meeting of the Board of Trustees.


Recognitions


JROTC National Champions 

The Alamo Heights HS JROTC Physical Fitness team won the 2023 JROTC Fitness National Championship. Cadets competed in the Mixed Division - both males and females on the team - in Daytona, Florida in May. 


In addition to the national championship, ROTC students also earned the following awards:

First Place in Standing Broad Jump & Flex Arm Hang/Pull Ups

Fifth Place in Seated Power Throw & Ultimate Obstacle Course

Emma Heusinger placed 5th in the Flex Arm Hang amongst 91 competitors

Cole Butler placed 4th in the Standing Broad Jump amongst 101 competitors.


Other Board Action and Presentations  


Dr. Yadira Taboada-Palacios, Coordinator for Teaching and Innovation and Coordinator for Language Programs, presented a bilingual program review.


Dr. Jimmie Walker, Assistant Superintendent of Curriculum and Instruction, presented a review of Gifted and Talented programs.


Frank Stanage, Director of Human Resources, shared a presentation of a Texas School Safety Center Intruder Detection Audit.


Mike Hager, Assistant Superintendent of Business & Finance, presented an update on the 2023-24 budget. The recommendation for the 2023-24 budget contains a salary increase of 4% on the midpoint for all teachers, librarians and nurses, a 6% increase on the midpoint for auxiliary staff and a 3 to 4% increase on the midpoint for the various levels of administrator pay scales. Dr. Bashara added that there would be an additional retention bonus added to the final budget recommendation to be adopted in August.


Trustees approved an Order authorizing the Issuance of "Alamo Heights Independent School District Unlimited Tax School Building Bonds Series 2023"; Levying a Continuing Direct Annual Ad Valorem Tax for the Payment of the Bonds; Authorizing the Execution of Any Necessary Engagement Agreement with the District's Financial Advisors; Delegating the Authority to Certain Members of the Board of Trustees and District Staff to Approve and Execute Certain Documents Relating to the Sale of the Bonds; and Providing an Effective Date.


Trustees approved the naming of the Mule Stall at Alamo Heights HS as Margery L. Block Mule Stall in recognition of a gift to the Alamo Heights School Foundation Endowment Campaign. 


Trustees approved a revision of Local Policy BE: Board Meetings. Regular Board Meetings will be conducted on the third Wednesday of the month, formerly the third Thursday of the month. 


Trustees received an annual report on 2022-2023 Facility Rentals and the plan for 2023-24 Employee Professional Development ; approved a TEA Foreign Exchange Student Waiver; and approved 2023-24 Education Service Center (ESC) Region 20 Commitment Forms. 


Donations were accepted from: Alamo Heights School Foundation; Cambridge Elementary PTO; Alamo Heights MulePushers; H-E-B; Alamo Heights HS Athletic Department; Woodridge Elementary PTO; Alamo Heights HS Class of 2023; and Alamo Heights Junior School PTO. The accepted donations totaled $1,415,907.79


Trustees accepted reports from the Assessment and Long Range Planning; Goals and Priorities; and Building committees.
