Teacher Surprised with Cars

Teacher of the Year Surprised with Cars

It was a day like any other, until AHISD Teacher of the Year, Michelle Candland, took a walk to the front of the school to take a quick photo and was surprised to find four cars sitting on the front lawn. And they were all for her use during the "Vehicle for All Four Seasons" honor for outstanding teachers, sponsored by Principle Auto Group!

Principle Auto, an independent auto dealership management group headquartered in San Antonio, teamed up with Alamo Heights Independent School District to award Teacher of the Year, Michelle Candland, with a “Vehicle for All Four Seasons”.

Candland, a Special Education ELA and Reading teacher at Alamo Heights High School, will receive car keys to four different Principle Auto vehicles throughout the year - 2 BMW's, 1 Volvo and 1 MINI.

“Principle Auto's mission statement is 'We Live to Provide Exceptional Care'. We know that is what these teachers do every single day, and we feel proud and honored that we can reward these amazing men and women for their outstanding effort,” shared Abigail Kampmann, CEO of Principle Auto.

Candland was chosen because she has always been drawn to assist in conquering the challenges faced by teens. Whether working with students through socio-economic, social/behavioral, or academic challenges, she feels a strong commitment to those who struggle to prosper in the generalized educational environment.

"As a teacher of children with special needs, Michelle has the uncanny ability to build strong, lasting relationships with her students, often lasting well past graduation as they move into the work sector. She deeply understands and diagnoses action plans for her students, considering their current academic and social skill levels, working to propel them forward to reach unthinkable new heights and successes," shared AHHS principal Dr. Cordell Jones.

Candland was named AHISD Teacher of the Year earlier in the year, but was surprised with the keys to her first vehicle as such, from Kampmann of Principle Auto, in a presentation held in front of Alamo Heights High School, at 2:30 pm, Wednesday.
